Word Macintosh is every way a Word for Windows repackaged and recompiled so it can function in Mac application, making it not just compatible or look like the same Word on your PC. It is the same Microsoft Word, just like one designed for every application.

Thinking about the design and development of Word Macintosh, including the amount and time spent, can bring you a lot of headache. Over a billion dollars were spent in designing this endeavor using the tens of thousands of hands to succeed in this effort.

Because it came from the same software, supported by Microsoft’s notion of having two versions resembling each other, the difference between Microsoft Word and Word Macintosh will eventually become less and less in a matter of time.

In essence, each PC version is has its own Mac for Word counterpart in later years. As a matter of fact, Microsoft is doing a lot of effort to eliminate this gap. But this has yet to come into fruition since Windows office business unit has to accomplish it’s version of MBU first before Mac’s business unit can do the job.

Difference in appearance

In every platform, Word takes on default look of the operating system. You cannot see anything drawn by Word. On Mac, the display is designed by Mac OS-X while on PC, Windows design the display. In this way, the use does not only save money but most especially a lot of disc space and processor power is saved.

A keyboard shortcut is one way of invoking a function in Mac OS X simply by typing a combination of keys on the keyboard.

Using a keyboard shortcut or combination key, press the modifier key together with the character key. For example, typing Command (Cmd) key with the symbol with the C key at the same time copies whatever text or document that is highlighted or selected, be it text or graphic. This is also called the Command-C shortcut or combination.

Most key combinations use the modifier key to change the way other keystrokes or mouse clicks as interpreted by Mac OS X. Modifier keys comprise of the Command, Control, Option, Shift, Caps Lock, and for portable Macs, the Fn ky.

Some modifier key symbols used in Mac OS X include:

Command key – also called Apple key because on Apple keyboards, this key has an Apple logo.

Control key

Option key – Alt is sometimes substituted on this key

Shift key

Caps Lock – Sets the Caps Lock on or off

Function key – Found in the lower left side of built-in keyboards on portable Macs

Startup keyboard shortcuts

Type the key or key combination until the resulting function appears. For example, hold Option as you startup the computer until Startup Manager emerges or press Shift until Safety Boot comes out.

If startup function doesn’t appear or work, try using the third-party keyboard by connecting to an Apple keyboard before you try it again.
